THE BOTTLES
- -
Capricorn 2007$20
Cardinal earth: the essence of control.
Solomon’s Seal, pine, amaranth, ambrette, cypress, wild tobacco, and hemp.

Aeaea$20
A dark ocean breeze, electric with adrenaline, magic, and fear, clashing with the thick scent of poisoned berries and spiny aloe, against a backdrop of snowdrop, cedar, and cypress.

Swan Maiden$20
White gardenia, white iris, sandalwood, calla lily, French magnolia, muguet, jonquil, and orchid.

Poisson d’Avril$18 (Tested)
Not at all fishy; rather, quite Springy! Innocence spiked with a little bit of foolishness: Lenten rose, crested iris, Virginia bluebell, primrose, moss phlox, blue crocus, daffodil, and dewy tulip with a touch of sugar blossom and honey.

Night’s Pavilion$18 (Tested)
Not the desperation, desolation and anguish of unrequited love, but the distant, chill and pitiless scent of the object of that doomed desire. White musk, osmanthus, Nile lily and frankincense.

All Souls ‘07$20
A day of remembrance and intercession. Without the prayers and sacrifices of their families and loved ones, the faithful departed may not be cleansed of their venal sins, and thereby cannot attain beatific vision. On November 2nd, prayers are sung and offerings are made to aid lost souls in transcending purgatory. An incense blend that invokes the higher qualities of mercy and compassion, mingled with the soft, sugared currant scent of offertory soul cakes.

(Scroll labels)

The Fruit of Paradise$20
The Fruit of Paradise, the Nectar of Death: bittersweet pomegranate.

La Befana$20
Candy charcoal, winter lilies, parma violet, a sprig of cypress, a poof of chimney dust, and holiday sweets.

Midwinter’s Eve ‘07$20
A melancholy, deep scent, poignant and brimming with nostalgia. The perfume of sugared plums over a breeze of winter flowers.

Peacock Queen ‘07$20
In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred.

The Snow Storm$20
Winter aconite, balsam fir, cedar leaf, and white mint.

(Picture labels)

Mistletoe ‘07$20
The plant of peace in Norse tradition. If enemies met in the forest and came upon a sprig, they laid down their arms and observed a truce until the next sunrise.

Lick it One More Time$18 (Tested)
Every holiday season should be full of lewd suggestions and filthy double entendres, right? This is a new take on Lick It and Lick It Again—a peppermint candy cane with a flash of vanilla and an extra jolt of sugar.

About

Hi! My name is G. I used to be a person, but now I’m a mommy. There are many benefits, and a couple of downsides, to being a mommy - none of them involve a lot of sleep. I think that explains a lot about me, and this website.

I really, really suck at writing these things, but I know it’s pretty much a blogger requirement, so I’m giving it a go. Bear with me.

I was born in 1980 (<--- CLEVER!! Now I don't need to update this page each year) in Denmark, and nine years later, to the day, the Berlin wall fell. (This has had little to no impact on me personally, whatsoever, I just felt the need to share that.)

During the years there has been a lot of moving around, sometimes because I wanted to, others against my will. Last time I counted all the places I have lived, two hands were not enough to count on. I've lived in Denmark, had a brief stay in Greenland, moved to Sweden and finally back to Denmark. Somehow I ended up in Funland, and even though I didn't officially move here until 2004, it has still been my home since 2001 (there's this whole interesting story about how I was listed as a missing person for a couple of years, but I'm too lazy to dig the archives). Of course I came here for a boy, who I've seen grow into a man for the past 7 years.

Because I've been shuffled around so much I have no patriotic feelings towards anything. These days I think in English, but I miss being able to think, talk and write fluently in Swedish as I haven't practiced in years. I speak danish, but my writing is poor and I struggle to find certain words. I've become comfortable with our little personal brand of English in this house, but I do wish I could practice my Swedish more often.

Proud mama

In 2006 our daughter was born. The pregnancy was highly unexpected, to say the least. Against all odds we’re a real little family now, tumultuous, exhausting and entirely worth it. I’m a stay at home mum, having the best and the worst times of my life. The first year or so of her life, all I could see was the similarities. These days I mostly notice the differences. Her name is Carlita, a strong name for a strong little girl.

I still haven’t decided whether I could handle another one or not.

I’ve been on the net for a long time, but these archives start just before I got pregnant, late summer 2006. I don’t have much, if any, archives saved from before then, and even if I did it would be too painful to post it all here (not because my life has been painful, but my posts are an eyesore, trust me!). My posting is erratic at best, with few plot lines. I take photos with my Canon EOS 400D and post them to Flickr, but that urge also comes and goes as it pleases.

I notice other people’s bad grammar but am oblivious to my own. I’m currently addicted to Villainess and BPAL and I dye my hair a lot. My favorite love story is a tie between Natural Born Killers and Secretary.

I live with Jelly Man, whom I’ve known since I started getting into the IRC scene in the late 1990s, but as friends all those years. After a breakup in 2001, I was desperate for something new. I was thisclose to ending up on a totally different path, and I feel a twinge of guilt because I kinda broke a promise when something in me decided that going to Funland for a while was the right thing to do, but all in all I would be lying if I said I’d rather be anywhere else, and since I’m still here I think I made the right decision.

J sees you

Jelly Man is two and a half months younger than me, and an Aquarius (yes, we’re an Aquarius/Scorpio couple - shock! That is, shock! if you believe in Astrology, and while I don’t believe in it, per se, it does amuse me a whole lot.) He is everything I never would have thought I’d end up with when I was younger. At first there were a couple of rough years, and then there was a couple of really smooth years, and now there is Carlita. Need I say more?

He makes me laugh like none other. And he is amazing in bed. And he has a very sexist view of how household chores should be divided, but it’s OK, I’m making headway in that department.

We live in the same house as his father, but it’s a little more complicated than that. Basically he has his own little pad with a kitchen, but we share bathroom/shower/sauna, and then we occupy the rest of the house successfully, junk and all. Most of the time grandpa (that’s how we refer to him now) spends his nights with his other family, and comes by at day time. He goes on a lot of cruises and vacations, so sometimes we don’t see him for weeks at a time. He’s a private kind of person, if he weren’t I don’t think we’d get along this well.

Love

This other family business is also rather complicated. I’d say grandpa is a very, very complicated man indeed, and since I have yet to learn Finnish, the two of us share a very, very special relationship that involves a lot of smiling, nodding and grinning. I love him to bits. Grandpa isn’t a man of many words. He doesn’t chitchat, except with Carlita. This other family is a total mystery because of this fact. We don’t even know if they’re just engaged or if they’re actually married. Apparently, Finnish people don’t talk a whole lot about their personal affairs. Or maybe I just ended up in a really warped region of the country - who knows?

You may, or may not, have noticed my hair or lack thereof. You may even have concluded that I am, in fact a late-twenties-something with the experimental haircut/color of a seventeen year old, resulting in something looking not totally unlike psychedelic roadkill. It’s not a bold fashion statement, it’s not a bold anything - it’s a way for me to deal with my trichotillomania. I’m just exploiting the fact that my coping mechanism allows me to do what I didn’t dare do when I was, in fact, seventeen years old. It’s kinda fun now, I’m even getting used to the stares! But it’s a temporary fix and at some point I will stop feeling comfortable walking around with a purple tuft of hair on my head.
