She learned to open the hallway drawers too

I’m having a particular brand of crazy here today. Carlita is opening every drawer in the house and pulling everything out, as if things weren’t chaotic enough already. I have absolutely no privacy left, unless I were to go out and buy a safe - which, come to think of it, isn’t such a stupid idea! I guess I just never gave it much thought, but what kid doesn’t know exactly where everything is in the house? The booze, the porn, the money.. It’s because they start cataloging everything as soon as they can walk. I’d be naive if I thought otherwise (toddlers - I’m on to you!) and now I’m paying for not putting one and one together a little sooner.
It’s not like I have anything to hide.. I just don’t like my stuff being, you know, touched or anything, and especially not with hands that tend to leave a smudgy print of nondescript nature on anything remotely light in color. And here she is at it, deep into my drawers and pulling out all sorts of lotions and lip balms, and she’s at it even as I’m typing this. My nerves are practically fizzling.
I can haz vac-at-ion, mkthnxpls yarz?

We woke up to a snow covered world today, a couple of inches or so, heavy and wet. It was fun to watch Carlita in bewilderment at the white stuff that kept falling from up there somewhere. When that novelty wore off it was fun to watch her watch her own feet as they made crinkly fresh-snow sounds under her boots. She walked the yard in her new snowsuit like an astronaut on the moon, with slow, stiff motions, careful not to trip.
I think Christmas is going to be something special this year.
Good morning NaBloPoMo!

All right! So the race has begun.
While nearly all other bloggers were out celebrating Halloween yesterday, by going trick or treating or partying all night long, we were sitting here at home not doing much at all. Halloween simply hasn’t gone all that big here yet. Costumes are scarce, neighbors to go trick or treating at are even scarcer where we live, and so Carlita got no proper costume and no trick or treating this year. Honestly I don’t feel like she is missing out on much. She would, after all, hardly be able to remember it, would she? No, if I’m sad that this whole Halloween thing has passed us by it’s because I wanted to see her in a cute fluffy suit, preferably with some kind of tail attached to it. I’m just a sucker for that kind of outfits.
Oh well! There is always next year, yes? And, anyway, we have a horror on our hands of our very own. It started a couple of months back when my mum sent us 9 cds with Danish children’s music. First off, 9 cds is a bit of an overkill, OK? Second, when I was pregnant I swore off children’s music like it was the plague. No way were we ever going to stoop THAT low. But she sent them, so I had to at the very least give them a swirl. Carlita absolutely loves them.
I grew up in Denmark, at least until I was at least 10, so I actually remember most of these songs now that I’ve listened to them again, and it’s with great horror. You couldn’t make most of these up today without being severely punished and paying a lot of fines. Some of the songs are just very non-PC, others just don’t sound suitable for kids. There is no getting around it though, Carlita likes them (and Carlita gets what she wants, oh yes she does!)
I’m hoping that, if I just keep playing Tori Amos every once in a while, she’ll eventually catch on to something more tasteful. A girl can dream, right?
It was never just a fling, but it had to end nonetheless

I think I’ll always feel divided on this issue, as Ralph would put it; “I’m happy and angry”, except I’m happy and sad.
I think the weaning has started.
