Finally, last item! It’s just in the nick of time since a recent order is set to ship from the lab today, so I’m guessing that next week I’ll be busy.

Swan Maiden is everything I thought perfume was about before I got into BPAL, meaning it’s a floral scent. To be specific, it’s a very white floral scent. I suck so bad at identifying flowers so I can’t pick out any one in particular from this blend.

In the bottle it’s a tad sharp, with something green lingering in there. After applying the oil to my wrist, all I can smell is white, heady flowers, but at least they soften up a bit after a while and I think I can detect the sandalwood.

All in all it’s a pretty floral, but it turns slightly too “clean” on me. Not exactly soapy, but I’ve found that I’m not really the floral girl I thought I was. Never the less, it’s pretty and I might even be tempted to wear it every once in a blue moon.

In the bottle it smells almost minty, I’m kinda guessing it’s the wormwood. It’s a dark herbal smell, with a little freshness to it, which I guess might be the basil. When I put it on it immediately turns quite sweet and VERY resinous. I can clearly smell the dragon’s blood resin, even though I don’t own that many oils with dragon’s blood, it stands out a lot at first. The opoponax is sweetening it up a whole lot - or it’s the dark musk which tends to go very sweet on me, or more likely, it’s a combination of the two.

Reading up on Wikipedia, galangal is supposed to give a faint hint of citrus - that explains the freshness. No real hint of basil, but I’m sure it’s adding to the herbalness of the blend.

This is a nice resinous/herbal blend that I’d probably wear a lot if I were into resins more. I can imagine this being a fantastic room fragrance!

BPAL - Beaver Moon 2007

Traditionally, Beaver Moon is named thus for a very obvious reason: during this time of year, beavers are hard at work building their dams and preparing for the onset of winter. However, we at BPAL rarely let an opportunity for sleazy campiness pass us by! For your pleasure and amusement, we present this year’s incarnation of Beaver Moon: wild cherry with vanilla cream accord, and a hint of strawberry.

First up, Beaver Moon. I’ve heard about the earlier Beaver Moon and knew I had to have this one. The previous Beaver Moon was cheesecake if I remember correctly, and while I’m a little sad it’s not the same this year I’m still excited to try this. This years version smells very buttery in the bottle, with something fruity hanging way in the back, but then what I smell in a bottle always varies from how it smells on me . After applying the oil, my arm smells like a strawberry jelly donut. I’ve discovered I’m a major foodie*, so this doesn’t bother me one bit. Actually it’s a nice mix of strawberry and cherry, and the cherry doesn’t turn to almond.

Beaver Moon 2007 gives off a medium throw, but doesn’t last too long. It is similar to Bloody Mary, without being as juicy and a tad less sugary. There is more butter than cream in this one.

I only ordered one bottle, I think I’m going to go for a backup. Success!!
